Sweeet Straps

(C) Copyright Amanda Stratton, 2009 - Waterloo Photographer

A while ago, my sisters picked up a Sweeet Straps camera strap cover for me while they were at Scrapfest without me. I was immediately intrigued by its cuteness but a bit skeptical as to whether this seemingly simple little accessory would be any match for the rigours of professional shooting.

The Sweeet Straps cover is intended to make your existing strap more comfortable to wear, and the big questions was whether it would make a noticeable difference over the course of a wedding day.

The Sweeet Straps cover was really easy to put on. If anything I thought it slid on too easily, and might have too much space and it would slip around on my strap and I would have to constantly adjust it. It didn't. Even though the opening is large enough to accommodate a strap much wider than my little wee one, it stayed put.

I wore the Sweeet Straps cover to Chad and Jess's wedding. I'm a two-camera shooter at weddings, so I have quite a bit of weight on my shoulders and neck, and in the whirlwind of shooting, my straps often get pulled into weird places where they irritate my neck. I try to keep cameras on my shoulders, but inevitably, one ends up around my neck, which is hugely uncomfortable, and especially because I have sensitive skin.

With the Sweeet Straps cover, I didn't have a problem with it. I should mention at this point that I put the cover on my Canon 1D Mark II, which is a heavy camera. It really made a big difference in the comfort of the strap, and particularly over the course of the day. Usually after a long day of shooting with two bodies at a time, my neck is red and sore from straps rubbing on it all day. Not an issue with the Sweeet Straps cover on there!

I was really impressed by Sweeet Straps, and I think I'm going to invest in more. For starters, I want one that's a bit more subdued for weddings, but I love the one my sisters picked out for portrait sessions!

I do want to make a note to be clear that the Sweeet Straps civer is not, as far as I know, designed to help with weight distribution or anything like that. The STRAP ITSELF is more comfortable, but a heavy camera is a heavy camera, and a long day is a long day, and we should all be taking care of ourselves by trying our best to ensure we're not straining anything!
