Because Mommies are Awesome (Free Stuff)

(C) Copyright Amanda Stratton, 2009

My mom is amazing. She is one of my best friends. She's a great listener and gives solid advice (which I've finally learned to listen to). She's let me come back home three times - and once I was an invalid and she took care of me, and most recently, I brought two kids with me. She's the first person to offer to help whenever there's a big job to be done, and she's the last person to leave when it's being done. My mom is the kind of person that you can call at 2 AM just because you're sad or lonely, and she won't hang up. She's the mom who still calls us to make sure we're home safe when it's storming. She is a person who is willing to share everything she has in in her power to give with someone who needs it. She is strong, smart, and caring, which is a great combination.

My mom is amazing.

Do you know a mom who's amazing, too?

I want to hear about fabulous moms, and I want to give one lucky mom a chance to experience complimentary custom photography -- an absolutely free session, a slideshow of the images set to music, and a disc of the high resolution images so she can print and reprint all she wants, although she likely won't need to since she'll also get $300 to spend on prints, albums, or canvases.

More than that, she'll get a fun day out, with whomever she wants, doing whatever kind of shoot she wants. She can choose an individual shoot, a couple's shoot, a family shoot, a shoot for the family dog... whatever she wants.

We'll visit some beautiful spots to take some amazing photos, and I might just have a few other little surprises in store to give her the awesome day that she deserves to have.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a free session and $100 print credit as well!

The rules:

* The person you nominate doesn't have to be your mom - just a mom. Two other eligibility rules I'm stealing from Me Ra Koh's rules: 1/ motherhood starts when you start feeling like a mother, so a woman who has miscarried or lost a baby still counts as a mother as far as I'm concerned; and 2/ you are welcome and ENCOURAGED to nominate yourself!!!

* The nominee must reside in Southwestern Ontario unless you want to ship one of us somewhere.

* Tell me who you know, what makes her a fabulous mom and person, and why she deserves my artwork for free. Please include a way to contact both you and your nominee.

* You must e-mail me the full story : mothersday@livingproofphotography.ca. Feel free to include pictures, videos, or whatever you feel best tells the story of your nominee! My junk mail filter seems to be under the impression that my inbox is more elite than it really is, so please please also drop a comment here to let me know you nominated someone. That way, I can make sure I have actually received all nominations.

The winner will be announced on May 8, 2009 in time for Mother's Day, and nominations will be accepted until May 7, 2009 at 11:59 PM
... so get nominating! I can't wait to read all of your entries!

This contest is part of the Giving is Awesome initiative.

Oh, and by the way, it was my mom's birthday on April 2nd, and I didn't blog it, so Happy Birthday Momma!!! Wanna know how old she is? This is all I'll say:

I know your mom and you are right! She's a great person! I really enjoyed getting to know her as well as you, with that NY Freedom to Succeed trip! We will have to do this again.

Tell your mom I said hi! She has to be thrilled at your blog post!

What a fantastic idea!!! I LOVE IT!!! And I love the qualification for those that have lost a child. Are you going to post the nomination letters? And ya - our Momma is pretty wicked.

Hey Tam - I'm not going to share all the nomination letters, since I expect some of them will be very personal and not necessarily submitted by the person they're about. I will probably share a precis-d and winner-approved version of their story when the winner is chosen.

By the way, folks, if you don't want to, you don't have to say here who you nominated in your email. Just say THAT you are sending me an email so I can check for the email to come in.

What the heck is precis-d?

precis-d is a word I made up, meaning that I might use a precis of the original story.
